Football Players by Football Almanac : A Comprehensive Encyclopedia

The Pigskin Line-Up For Today "poem" is an original, written by Football Almanac, and created in spirit of the classic baseball poem, Line-Up for Yesterday. The "Z" portion of the poem is in fact identical to to the original which was written by Ogden Nash for Sport Magazine in January 1949.

Did you know that the first player in football history to have a thousand yard rushing season was Beattie Feathers of the Chicago Bears who rushed for 1,004 yards in 1934? Did you know he carried the ball only one-hundred nineteen times that season, averaging 8.44 yards per carry?

When the National Football League announced the 75th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1994 only one player was named to two positions: Gale Sayers, who was named as one of seven running backs and the only player named as a kick return specialist.
